How does online trading stock (scottrade) work?

I am totally new for this … and planning to start from down, of course. So far all I really know is to buy the stock when low .. and then when they get the selling. Ok, you're gonna laugh again .. but I am new and learning. When you "sell" people have to buy someone? Or does it work like this: 2 weeks ago bought 30 shares at 5.40 each one. Today, after two weeks are at 7.13 .. So I can gain good beginner .. so click a button that says sell / trade and within a few minutes I made a profit of $ 51.90 (7.13 to 5.40 = 1.73 = 1.73X30 …. $ 51.90) … Is this how it works? Or does someone have to buy? When trading stocks say that we are not talking about a stock trade of a population … Right? actions mean money .. lol I'm back again! Thanks! =)

You understand the fine process. Yes, when you sell a stock that has to be someone who buys it. But do not worry about that. There are always buyers Hence, if the price is right. When you buy or sell a stock on scottrade or wherever, you can make a market order or limit order. With a market order to buy or sell the shares at the going rate is, everything that the buyer or the seller is willing to give. There is something called the bid-ask spreads. For most people is only a few cents. Let's say Exxon (EOM): $ 70.41 to $ 70.45. This means that if you sell, you get 70.41 and if you buy (with an order market), you pay 70.45. Sometimes the price is changing rapidly, so if you want to ensure that your order is executed, using a market order. Also There is a limit order "" Say I will not sell my shares for less than $ 80. I put in a limit order, and my order will not run unless a buyer willing to pay my price.
